Chapter 10 – Part 1
Sangat from Lahore
In Lahore lived a millionaire named Dunni Chand. He was enlightened by Guroo Nanak Dev Ji. After meeting Guroo Ji he purged his mansion to build a place of worship. In a corner he built two small bedrooms, one living room and one rainproof shed for himself. Sangat gathered every morning and evening at that place to do paath and keertan. At noon Dunni Chand would go to the market to do a little business to earn only what was needed to cover the costs of the place of worship, service of holy persons, and his little house. In past after meeting Guroo Ji he had distributed money in huge amounts to the meek because of Guroo Ji’s wishes, and now his way of living was to earn a little while sharing it, and believing in good will of everyone; and to walk on path of honesty and inspire others to do the same. Because of the principles which had become a part of his life, Guroo Nanak was very pleased at him. Whenever Guroo Ji paid visits to Lahore or neighboring places, he would stay with Dunni Chand and give him teachings, and blessings of his sight to make his life magnificent. For the past some time, this beloved of Guroo Ji was restless because of separation from Guroo Ji for 5-6 months. He was imbued in the colors of Naam, and envisioned VaaheGuroo manifested everywhere in the world, but even then he was in sorrow of being separated from Guroo Ji. He was truly in deep distress because of departure of his mediator friend who had joined his heart with the husband Lord. Today after the ceremonies at the place of worship were over, he went to his wife who was in the living room.
Dunni Chand: Fortune filled wife! Why did Guroo Nanak leave before us?
His wife filled her eyes with tears and was unable to speak anything.
Dunni Chand: When he gave me the needle, he said, "Dunni Chand, save this needle and I will take if from you in the world after." At that time I figured that Dunni Chand would be leaving this world before others but I didn’t know that the one who I had to give this needle back to would be leaving before me and I, who had to return it would be left in this world. (Shaking his head) Oh! Oh! And that he would leave me in this world from which he separated me (tears rolled down and silence remained in the whole room).
Dunni Chand spoke again: He was very compassionate over me and also gave me a lot of love, and I thought that I was the only one he loved. If this was really true then Guroo Ji wouldn’t have left alone. Wouldn’t he take me along as well?
Bhaagvanti: When you brought the needle to me and told me to save it, because you had to give it to Guroo in the world after, I understood at that time that he had come to waken us. That is why I said, "Go return the needle and tell him,-Ji! My body is not going along with me, so how would the needle go?" Then the charming Master pointed you with the arrow of his love. We all became Guroo Nanak’s, and Guroo Nanak became ours.
After saying this she also became silent. After thinking something she spoke again, "Husband of my breath! You must understand what Guroo Ji told us the last time he visited us."
Dunni Chand: I don’t remember, so please remind me what Guroo Ji had said.
After listening this, his wife spoke: "Dear one! Guroo Ji told us: "The moon makes all the water bodies his own. In which pool doesn’t he shine and which pool is there which doesn’t look at the moon as its own. So wherever he shines, he belongs there fully and he belongs to each single pool and to all of them as well.
Then he made us understand that we are not like the dead water bodies, but alive, so we should not look at the moon as if it was only ours. He is ours but he belongs to others as well. So dear husband! If Guroo Nanak Dev Ji had to take with him everyone who belonged to him, who would remain here? Oh blessed one! Why should we have sorrow that if we belonged to Guroo Nanak he should have taken us. My companion! You are true and your love is high. My thinking is not so full of his love, but if we think about it, Guroo Nanak has left and not left at the same time. He has left by enshrining his sight within our hearts, and by not leaving, his sight still exists here, if we haven’t been able to locate it then there are shortcomings in our abilities." After finishing, Dunni Chand’s wife started crying.
Dunni Chand: "Oh blessed one, it is true that we have shortcomings; if our love for him was complete then we must have found him by now."
By then someone knocked on the door of the room and shouted, "Brother Dunni Chand! Hey brother!"
Dunni Chand stood up to open the door. Upon opening the door he heard someone saying – "The Guroo has been found! Guroo Nanak has been found!"
