New York (KP) – UNITED SIKHS is currently investigating a case of two Sikh school boys who were suspended for wearing a Kirpan, a Sikh article of faith.

Amarinder Singh and Harpreet Singh, both aged 14 have been suspended by Richmond Hill High School for wearing a Kirpan. The two boys had been wearing the Kirpan since the beginning of the school year without any objection by teachers and security staff.
When Harpreet Singh joined the track team he asked the coach if the Kirpan might be a problem, however he was taken to the principal’s office where his cousin Amarinder Singh had been summoned for wearing the article of faith to school. Both of the Singhs were then given a notice of suspension by the superintendent of the district and summoned to a hearing.
A hearing was held on December 22, 2005 and the two students were represented by Kuldip Singh and Tejinder Singh from United Sikhs.
Currently, the decision of the hearing is pending, but the Singhs have been allowed back to school. Panthic Weekly will report further details as they come to light.
