Tarn Taran Sahib, Punjab - 'Baba' Amrik Singh, a close associate of Baba Jiwan Singh, Baba Jagtar Singh Karseva Walay of Tarn Taran Sahib has reportedly disappeared swindling millions of rupees from Karseva projects.
In a press conference organized by Baba Jagtar Singh, the head of the Karseva group, it was announced that the 'mukhtar-nama' (power of attorney) given to Amrik Singh was rescinded and the public was warned of Amrik Singh's unscrupulous activities.
Amrik Singh, son of Baldev Singh of village SeoMajra of Haryana joined the Karseva Babas in 1987 at the age of 17, and had been part of the organization since.
They charged that recently Amrik Singh had used the Sangat's money to purchase land in Hoshiarpur in May of 2006 and a Tata Safari vehicle. They alleged, that overall he had embezzled over 2 crore (200 million) rupees.
According to the Punjabi Tribune, a case under various sections including 420 of the Indian Penal Code was being filed against Amrik Singh. District police chief Parveen Sinha said relatives of Amrik Singh were also involved in the misuse of Karseva monies and that a case could be filed against them.
The Karseva Babas have been mired in controversy and have been blamed for destroying and not preserving priceless historical monuments and architecture in their overzealous attempts of reconstructive Karseva.
