SIX SIKHS SENTENCED TO PRISON IN VIENNA RAMANAND TRIAL

VIENNA - The six Sikhs who were arrested in connection to a shooting and brawl at a Vienna Ravidasia temple last year have been sentenced to prison for the murder of self-styled Ravidasia 'Guru', Baba Ramanand.

The Sikhs had held Ramanand and his followers responsible for the violence at the Vienna temple, stating they had purposely shown disrespect to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the Sikh Holy Scripture.

The Austrian court sentenced one of the Singhs, Jaspal Singh, 35, to life in prison for murder and two counts of attempted murder, the Austrian Press reported.

Four other Sikh have been charged as accomplices of Jaspal Singh and have received 17 to 18 year prison sentences. The remaining Singh was given six months in prison for attempted coercion.

Those sentanced have been identified as: Jaspal Singh (35), Satvinder Singh (29), Tasem Singh (46), Sukhvinder Singh (28), Hardeep Singh (33), and Charnjeet Singh (24).

Jaspal Singh's lawyer has indicated that he will appeal the verdict. Appeal by the others is likely to follow.

Since, no-one is now allowed to call 'SIKHS GURU' in human form. Sikhs present guru is 'GuruGranthSahib', Ramdassia were calling this 'baba' as SIKH GURU even AFP is reporting this episode 'baba' SIKH GURU.

They acted in defensive mode, in order to protect Sikh's identity and Guru's Respect and values.

I agree, we should help their families and 'PANTH' should look after them. Can you provide more info regarding this....

They left their homes for good. They have sacrificed their part of life to uplift the Sikh principals. These Singhs deserve all the support from Sikh panth, as well as moral support like reply to the bad comments on different web sites. Otherwise we will be called akirtghan (burden on the earth).

I am totally disappointed in our "Panthic" representatives, i.e. Dal Khalsa, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) et al for not coming out in support of these Singhs.

Instead, they sheepishly stayed away when (so called) chamaars across Punjab were burning and looting Sikh owned shops and property in 2009 after this ramanand kanjar was dealt with.

I am sorry for having to mention caste in this, but the chamaars have total power in Doaba and especially Jalandhar areas. They rallied in London, carrying placards demanding for the kirpan to be banned.

When was the last time anybody saw an amritdhari or even kesdhari chamaar? Our people are quick to point out the "Hindu/Sikh" divide and "we are not Hindus" but this is exactly the same.

(So called) Chamaars are essentially confused Hindus, who have no respect for Sikhi - they call Bhagat Ravidas ji "Guru".
