AMRITSAR SAHIB (KP) - To commemorate the 343rd Parkash Divas of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Gurdwaras across the world hosted magnificent events. Over 200,000 devotees flocked to the holy city of Amritsar to celebrate this joyous day at Harmandir Sahib. Since Amrit Vela, devotees gathered around the premises of Harmandir Sahib and Sri Akal Takht to experience the marvelous display the management arranged. Harmandir Sahib was decorated with many luminous lights. In the evening, fireworks were displayed. Fortunately, langar was provided for the 200,000 devotees. Traveling Sangat generously donated around 5 million rupees.
In Jammu, thousands of devotees gathered together to participate in a nagar kirtan. During the nagar kirtan, religious slogans such as Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal and Raaj Karega Khalsa were sung. The nagar kirtan, in which devotees were dressed in Bana, started from Gurudwara Bibi Chand Kaur, passed through the city's main markets and finally ended at Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Nanak Nagar.
Unfortuately, some places did not follow Gurmat principles when celebrating the Gurpurab. For example, in England, at Baba Sang Gurdwara located in Smethick, Birmingham, there was supposed to be propogation of Sri Dasam Granth. However, this propogation was greatly damaged when the host decided to do arti (lighting of candles and incense) around Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Sri Dasam Granth. This greatly decreases the chance of people seriously learning about Sri Dasam Granth.
On a positive note, Sri Dasam Granth was propogated by famous parchariks. In the U.S. at Fremont Gurdwara Sahib, hundreds of devotees gathered to celebrate the Gurpurab. During the celebrations, Giani Pinderpal Singh Ji requested sangat to recite, listen, and study the Bani of Sri Dasam Granth. In addition, Ragi Singhs such as Bhai Gurmukh Singh Ji, (Gurdwara Sis Ganj, New Delhi), Bhai Gurmail Singh Ji (Ex Hazoori Sri Harmandir Sahib), and Bhai Gurpreet Singh Ji (Ex Hazoori Sri Harmandir Sahib, Current Head Granth of Fremont Gurdwara) peformed beautiful kirtan of banis from Sri Dasam Granth.
