Leicestershire, UK (KP) - The Sikh community around the world has been organizing events to mark the 300th anniversary of Guruship of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Several large scale events are being organized through the State of Punjab and especially in Hazoor Sahib where the Sikh Sangat from all over the world is gathering in large numbers.
Continuing with the pattern, the 300th anniversary of the Guruship of Guru Granth Sahib Ji was celebrated by the East Midlands Council of Gurdwaras of the UK. An estimated 50,000 people across UK gathered in Prestwold Hall in Loughborough to celebrate the grand event. Devotees lined up for more than thirty minutes at a time to bow to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The event will be remembered for assembling one of the largest Sikh gatherings in the UK at the same location.
The event had many attractions by displaying Sikh historical relics, practices and beliefs. It centred on the free communal langar, Sikh-martial arts displays, the parkaash of the world’s smallest saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji and a 19th Century Cannon from the Sikh Army of Raja Ranjit Singh.
While people from all over the UK took part, people from Canada, India and Spain too participated, say the organisers. The event is said to have exceeded its expectations. Sarbjeet Singh Landa of the East Midlands Council of Gurdwaras spoke expressing the overwhelming response from this great event. He thanked all the Sikh Sangat that was present at the event for their support.
