AMRITSAR SAHIB (KP) – After being harshly criticized for the publication of ‘The Rise and Fall of Khalistan Movement’, Harnam Singh Dhumma in embarrassment, has withdrawn the new English book that has sparked so much controversy. The book portrays the Khalistan movement, Dal Khalsa, and Baba Jarnail Singh as creations of the Congress party.
Published by the Dhumma faction of the Damdami Taksal, the book was released from Sri Akal Takht Sahib on 6, June 2006 by Harnam Singh Dhumma himself. The book is actually part of author Buta Singh’s thesis for a Masters in Philosophy degree from Guru Nanak Dev University.
The controversial book was promoted by Dhumma’s press secretary, Tardip Singh.
According to members of the GURSIKH organization, Tardip Singh at one time had infiltrated them, but was removed along with Sukhpreet Udhoke after the leadership learned of their dubious behavior. Shortly afterwards, the Dhumma camp courted both of these individuals for their own purposes. Tardip Singh soon became Dhumma’s press manager, and has been often seen traveling with Sukhpreet Udhoke on various occasions.
The opposing faction of the Taksal has criticized the contents of the book, and has already labeled the installation of Dhumma to head the Taksal as the handiwork of anti-Sikh forces.
Some of the controversial contents include:
- Indira Gandhi recruited communists and naxalites as ‘Khalistanis’ to start a wedge between Hindus and Sikhs
- Sanjay Gandhi and Zail Singh were looking 'a religious personality' like Sant Bhindranwale to feud and counter the Akalis.
- Dal Khalsa was created with the monetary help from Congress leaders to weaken the Akalis.
Did Dhumma’s lack of knowledge of the English language contribute to this embarrassing situation or was this a preplanned scheme of insiders? Critics themselves are puzzled by the book’s intentions, and the involvement of questionable individuals who have promoted it. Due to this fiasco, his critics are asking for Dhumma's eviction from Mehta Chauk, the current headquarters of the Taksal.
Meanwhile, a Panthic organization known as Khalsa Mission Organization stated that (Baba) Harnam Singh Dhumma is an agent of the central intelligence agency, who was introduced into the Panth for undermining the very spirit that Baba Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale stood for.
They further stated that he has no Panthic background; instead he is linked to Hindu holy men. The spokesman of the organization, Jarnail Singh stated that Tardip Singh, who is Dhumma's press manager supervised the publication of the controversial book is a government informant.
