Tension Rise Between SAD (A) and Shiv Sena
Thursday 14th of February 2008
Gurpreet Singh Mehak

Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab -  There is possibility of clash between former Member Parliament Simranjit Singh Mann led Shiromani Akali Dal(Amritsar) and Shiv Sena(Hindustan) as Mann’s party has announced to observe former Damdami Taksal chief  Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale 61st birth anniversary on February 12 in Fatehgarh Sahib and the Shiv Sena declared to observe this day as anti- terrorism day.

It was not first time when Mann party is observing the birth anniversary of Bhindranwale. From last many years, the party is observing birth anniversary in Fatehgarh Sahib. Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Presidium ) led by former militant leader Daljit  Singh Bittu has also announced to observe Sant Bhindranwale birth anniversary in February 12 in its Fatehgarh Sahib office by organizing a blood donation camp.

It is not clear that these party activists will participate in Mann’s function or not as there is differences between leaders of the both party but both the parties are claiming to follow the ideologue of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

Earlier, the Shiv Sena (Hindustan) had opposed the putting up of Sant Bhindranwale portrait at the Sikh Museum in the Golden Temple complex and now has now given a call to observe his birth anniversary as anti-terrorist day. The portrait was installed secretly in the presence of SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar and Bhindranwale son Ishar Singh and Mann party even congratulated Makkar and CM Parkash Singh Badal for installing the portrait but criticized by BJP and other parties.

SAD(A) leaders Simranjit Singh Mann, his son Emaan Singh Mann, other senior leaders Bhai Ram Singh, Iqbal Singh Tiwana are visiting various parts of Punjab  to invite people to come to Fatehgarh Sahib to celebrate the Sant birth anniversary. Pawan Gupta, president of the Shiv Sena said that Mann’s party wants to disturb peaceful atmosphere of the state by observing Bhindranwale birth anniversary. He said that there are various incidents of violence in the state for last many months. He said that if the government will remain silent on the issue that mean government is indirectly supporting militants. He said that his party will also organize a ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ path and a havan at Kali Devi Mandir in Patiala on February 12 to observe anti – terrorism day.

SAD(A) senior leaders Bhai Ram Singh and Iqbal Singh Tiwana while addressing a press conference said that their party would observe the Sant birthday at every cost. They also invited Punjab CM, SGPC president and Jathedars of all Takhts to participate in their party function. They criticized the state government for not taking stern action against Shiv Sena chief Pawan Gupta as their party wants to observe the Sant’s birth anniversary in peaceful manner but Gupta want to disturb peaceful atmosphere of the state by opposing their party’s programme.  Police has not started to round up both party activists so far.
