'Saadh Samaj' Heats Up Rhetoric over Vedanti
Thursday 6th of March 2008
Panthic Weekly News Bureau

Ludhiana, Punjab (KP) – Giani Iqbal Singh, Jathedar, Takht Sri Patna Sahib, along with the Sant-Samah, has taken another step to further intensify the controversy revolving around the Nanakshahi Calendar and the Rahit Maryada.  While their actions may be for the benefit of the Khalsa Nation, the manner in which Giani Iqbal Singh and his associates are trying to implement the changes is questioned by Panthic organizations.

During the ‘Gurmat Chetna Samagam’ held at Gurdwara Gurusar Panjuana Sahib, Giani Iqbal Singh, along with several other representatives of Sikh Jathebandis, announced a ‘war’ against the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Avtar Makkar and 'Jathedar' Vedanti.  The program was held to commemorate the third anniversary of Guru Granth Sahib’s establishment.

Giani Iqbal Singh told the Sikh Sangat in attendance that the so-called Sikh leaders have no knowledge whatsoever regarding the principals of the Sikh faith.  Giani Iqbal Singh lashed out at several Sikh leaders of high status and hinted at the corruption in Sikh institutes.

Full support was shown by the compatible associates of Giani Iqbal Singh at the program.   In particular, Baba Balbir Singh of Lammajatt Pura, representative of the Mehta faction of the Damdami Taksal and Sant Samaj, acknowledged the support of all of Sant Samaj, Nanaksar Samparda and Damdami Taksal for Giani Iqbal Singh.  Other representatives of Sant Samaj, Damdami Taksal and Nanaksar were also present at the program.

Giani Iqbal Singh held that along with the Nanakshahi Calendar, the maryada of the Khalsa Panth, that was ratified nearly a century ago, must be ratified again.  He also openly invited Jathedars of other Takhts for face-to-face debate on serious matters facing the Panth.  Whether or not Giani Iqbal Singh’s motives will accomplish anything is yet to be seen, but a precedent is definitely being set for the future.
