Attempt to undermine Credibility of Freedom Fighters
Friday 25th of April 2008
Panthic Weekly News Bureau

Bibi Sohanjeet Kaur dismissed Sandeep Kaur's claims, states she is a police cat

Chandigarh, Punjab (KP) – Panthic organizations took strong notice about the recent purported ‘revelations’ made by various individuals on the surreptitious relationships of various freedom fighters (Kharkoos) and politicians during the tumultuous 1980’s and 1990’s.

(The Jajharoo Singhs) sacrificed everything for the sake of the Panth, now they are being marginalized as an invention of the Congress Party!...It’s a shame...”  - Dalbir Singh (ISL)

A Political Stunt by the ruling SAD

Most of the politicians being outed as sympathetic to Freedom Fighters are Congress Party officials.  The Freedom Movement is in one manner or another being shown to be the brainchild of the Congress—an allegation most Panthic organization find despicable, and insulting.  Not surprisingly, the majority of noise is being made by those connected to the Bhartyia Janta Party (BJP), and the Akali Dal Badal, in hopes of cashing into Punjab’s Hindu vote bank in the upcoming elections.

‘Congress Creation’

Not too long ago, Tardeep Singh, assistant to Harnam Singh Dhumma, published the book “Rise and Fall of the Khalistan Movement” is which Baba Jarnail Singh Bhinderanwale was called a creation of the Congress Party and a ‘Congress Agent.’ The book was later re-called by Dhumma and Tardeep Singh after mounting pressure from Panthic organizations.  Similar stories have been published about Baba Gurbachan Singh Manochahal of the Bhinderanwale Tiger Force.

The recently released biography titled “Bikhra Painda” (Challenging Trail) by Bibi Sandeep Kaur makes similar allegations that several well-known Congress leaders, at one time, deliberately kept proximity with imminent Sikh Freedom Fighters of the Babbar Khalsa organization.

Bibi Sandeep Kaur's Questionable Background

Sandeep Kaur, who ran the Mata Gujri Trust orphanage with Bibi Sohanjeet Kaur, is not unfamiliar with controversy herself.  Many allege that she is being used by those individuals who hope to gain political mileage from this fray. Sandeep was never part of the Khalistani movement, but was once married to Dharam Singh Kashtiwala, who was killed in 1992 by the Indian security forces.  She later married a controversial magazine editor, an act that raised questions about Sandeep’s loyalty to her martyred husband.

Bibi Sohanjeet Kaur has gone far as calling Sandeep Kaur a police cat (informant), who was sent by KP Gill to infiltrate the Babbar Khalsa. She questioned the intention of her revelations, and asserted that her book was pile of lies, that were put out to malign the Sikh cause.

Sandeep Kaur especially brought forth the name of Rajinder Bhattal of the Congress Party. She alleges that Bhattal ingeniously utilized the Khalistan Movement during the 80’s and 90’s to accomplish many of her personal motives.

The revelations by Bibi Sandeep Kaur have surprised everyone, as Bibi Bhattal has denounced the Khalistan movement several times recently.  In addition, Bhattal has also tried to blame her Congress rival Capt. Amarinder Singh for sympathizing with Babbar Khalsa leaders, including its Chief Jathedar Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara.

Condemnation of Sukhbir Badal’s Reaction

Several Sikh organizations, including the Sikh Council International, Akal Federation, and United Akali Dal, took strong notice to the statements by Sukhbir Badal, Rajinder Bhattal, and Capt. Amarinder Singh for attempting to capitalize on these allegations and tarnishing the sacred memory of the Sikh Nation’s Freedom Fighters.

In reference to Sandeep Kaur’s allegations, Sukhbir Badal, president of the Shiromani Akali Dal, referred to the Sikh Freedom Fighters as ‘khattarnak atvadee’ (dangerous extremists/terrorists).  Chiding the remarks of Badal junior, Mr. Narain Singh of the Akal Federation, stated that those Sikhs were fighting for the freedom the Sikh Nation and were not extremists, but patriots and Sikh Nationalists.

Sikh representatives argued that during the reign of the Jajharoos, Bibi Bhattal, Badal, and Amarinder Singh, used to tremble upon hearing the names of these Freedom Fighters and always looked for ways to keep out of their way.

Akalis, Congress, BJP: Enemy of the Kharkoos

Akal Federation’s Narain Singh also asserted that during the height of the Kharkoo movement, politicians like Tohra, Badal, Bhattal, and Amarinder were always looking for ways to placate the Jajharoos, but the freedom fighters had always considered the Congress Party, BJP, and the traitorous Akalis as enemies of the Panth. This raises the question of why they would ever make these politicians’ homes their residences–whether it be Baba Manochahal, Sukhdev Singh Babbar, or Jagtar Singh Hawara.

Dalbir Singh of the International Sikh League, perturbed at the politicians’ and media’s overreaction to these allegations stated, “There will always be those who will attempt to tarnish [the] image of [the] Sikh heroes, be it Sant Bhinderanwale, Baba Manochahal, or the Babbars.  They sacrificed everything for the sake of the Panth, now they are being marginalized as an invention of the Congress Party!...Who will gain from this?  Badal and the Akalis? Right?  It’s a shame that writers such as Sandeep Kaur [and] Tardeep Singh don’t realize this and are playing into their hands.”

“It’s a shame,” he quipped.

Incidentally, others are guilty as well. Ever since the Congress Party led by Capt. Amarinder Singh suffered losses in the State Assembly Elections, Bhattal, along with Shamsher Dullo, have been trying to portray themselves as the chief leaders of the Congress.

The news of them joining hands with buffoons such as Sukhbir Badal for the sake of political gain is at best comedic.  How these leaders, including the Badals—who at one time patronized the freedom fighters due to their popularity and power, but later  joined hands with Panthic enemies to eliminate them—needs to be researched at depth by independent human rights organizations.

These leaders are potentially responsible for playing with the blood of thousands of youth whom they once utilized, manipulated, and then fatally disregarded.  For this, they must provide answers.
