Prof. Bhullar and Sarabjit Singh's death penalty
Thursday 20th of March 2008
D S Gill, International Human Rights Organisation

Ludhiana, Punjab - The International Human Rights Organisation (IHRO) today called upon all the Panthic and Punjab political parties converging on Anandpur Sahib Holla Mohalla tomorrow to actively take up the Death Penalty case of Prof Devinderpal Singh Bhullar that had become the concern of the whole Sikh community and human rights NGOs worldwide, particularly after the changed attitude of the neighbouring Pakistan on the matter of Sarbjit Singh who is facing the hanging there.

While applauding the ruling parties and the Opposition for their unanimous resolution in the Punjab state assembly demanding clemency for Sarbjit Singh and its follow-up action by the Centre asking Pakistan government to do the needful, the IHRO chairperson D S Gill, general secretary M S Grewal, secretary Public Relations, Dapinder Singh and environment activist Gurcharanjit, in a statement urged the Punjab Assembly representatives the repeat the same thing in case of Prof Bhullar.

Meanwhile, IHRO chairperson Gill, on behalf of Paramjit Kaur and her children, in a on-line complaint to the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC), has urged its chairperson Justice M S Mongia to intervene and get freed the victims from the almost-a-house-arrest of the victims made by Patiala police, basing his averments on a report documented by IHRO activists Sukhdev Singh and Khushwinder Singh Grewal advocates.

Paramjit Kaur is wife of Bakhshish Singh who has allegedly been involved in the bomb blast in which Dera Sirsa baba Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh was the target. Bakhshish Singh is at large and his wife and children are being harassed by the Patiala police who are residing in Raghomajra locality of the town, added the IHRO complaint to the commission.

The IHRO has also urged Prof Davinderpal Singh Defence Committee, Khalsa Action Committee (KAC) and all other Sikh religious, human rights and political groups of the state that are holding conferences there at Anandpur Sahib Holla Mohalla to make a unanimous voice to save the life of Prof Bhullar in order to put pressure on Punjab and Central governments for granting clemency for him.
