Delhi claims 'capture' of two Freedom Fighters
Thursday 20th of March 2008
Panthic Weekly News Bureau

New Delhi (KP) – In yet another melodramatic press conference, the Delhi police claim to have “captured” yet another set of Sikh freedom fighters belonging to the Babbar Khalsa International organization and presented them in the Capitol yesterday. The two individuals, presented in front of the press, were identified as Jaswant Singh 'Kala' (31) and Surinder Singh Fauji (22) were presented in front of the press; Jaswant Singh has also been identified as Karnail Singh in various press reports.

Bhai Surinder Singh is said to be a Granthi Singh from the village Kaspur, Shahkot, Jallandhar. According to family and friends, Bhai Surinder Singh had just returned back from a trip to Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, when the Delhi Police came and arrested him.   Family and residents of Kaspur denied the claims by Police that he was a member of the Sikh freedom fighting organization, Babbar Khalsa International.

The other detainee, Bhai Jaswant Singh is said to be from Chakk Atari Sohnaywala, Mukatsar.  Interestingly, three years ago, Jaswant Singh was picked up under similar concocted charges, but later those same charges were dropped. Jaswant Singh’s father, Gurvinder Singh, stated that his son was just a simple dairy worker and was picked up by the Police while delivering milk in the village of Kabranwala.

In the usual fashion, the Police claimed that the duo was allegedly planning the assassination of a “high profile target at a particular religious dera.”  They also claimed to have discovered a foreign made pistol with ammunition, along with a “live” bomb in their possession.

Sikh human rights organizations, note that in the past similar overzealous claims by the Delhi Police have turned out to be nothing more than dramatized media scare to drum up public paranoia against the Sikhs.  Many such individuals are tortured, to force false confessions, and incarcerated in the prison system without the due process of a fair trial.
