Paramjit S. Sarna, President DSGMC |
Amritsar Sahib – In a meeting held on the 18th August, the Sikh clergy passed resolutions to summon Paramjit Singh Sarna (President of DSGMC), Parhlad Singh Chandok and Avtar Singh Hit (former presidents of DSGMC) at their next meeting to clarify their stance on the translation scam.
The translation of Guroo Granth Sahib Ji which was supposed to be done by Vemaraji Bhanu Murti involved a huge budget which had gone to waste. Vemaraju Bhanu Murti, a Telugu speaking person, did not understand the Punjabi language therefore this project had clear inconsistencies. Sikhs who take bani of Guroo Granth Sahib Ji as embodiment of the Sikh Guroo were deeply upset by this travesty.
This scam was brought to light by the Delhi based Global United Research and Service Institute of Knowledge for Humanity (GURSIKH) organization and Naujwan Khalsa Phulwari (NKP) in March. The GURSIKH organization has been playing an active role in exposing anti-Panthic elements and activities such as this one and those carried out by organizations such as VHP, RSS and others. Leaders of this organization have also been playing an important role in educating Sikhs worldwide about the activities of anti-Panthic organizations.
The Sikh sangat was shocked when the translator confessed in a video recording that he couldn’t understand or read the Punjabi language: “I can’t understand or read Punjabi … It was grace of the Almighty who made me an instrument and medium to accomplish this gigantic task of translating Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book, in different languages”.
Clearing his stance in this controversy, the Delhi Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee president, Paramjit Singh Sarna said that it was he who had asked Bhanu Murti to withdraw this project. He also told that these inconsistencies were first pointed out when he was appointed as the DSGMC president. He said that DSGMC had selected an inquiry committee to take actions against those individuals who were responsible for assigning this task to Bhanu Murti.
The GURSIKH organization brought to light that funds worth several lakhs were misused as the members of DSGMC had involved themselves in this project. Press also told that Mr. Murti was honored with a siropa for his work and bestowed with the title of Panthic Scholar.
