Chandigarh,Punjab (KP) - Sikh organizations and family members continued theiragitation to free 19 year old Parveen Kaur who was arrested by theHaryana Police on March 13, 2008 from Patiala under allegations that she had been recruited as a 'human bomb' to assassinate Dera Sirsa cultist Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
Parveen Kaur, aresident of Bhame Kalan, Mansa, is a student at Patiala's Mahindra College. Sikh organizations alleged that she has been tortured and inhumanely treated by the Haryana Police since her arrest.
Parveen Kaur¢s mother, Mata Amarjeet Kaur, her maternal grandmother, and other family members, along with hundreds of women, were present at this rally in Sector 25 of the City. Family members with supporters from Mata Gujri Sahara Trust, Sikh Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani), spokesperson, Bibi Surinder Kaur and others, presented a memorandum addressed to the chief minister of Punjab, Parkash Badal, requesting him to intervene in Parveen Kaur's case.
The memorandum, alleged that thiswas all being done by to win the political support of Sirsa based Sauda cult members in the upcoming elections. It stated that Badal wascompletely aware of how the Sauda cult had hurt Sikh sentiments and undermined the Sikh faith, but still the government has decided not totake any action against the cult leader.
Parveen Kaur, belonging to a family who has felt the wrath and persecution of boththe Hayrana and Punjab Police forces, is the niece of Bhai Lachman Singh Babbar aka Bashir Mohammed. Parveen's father, Mohammed Sadiqque, was killed by the Punjab Police during the freedom uprising of the last two decades. His only fault was that he was married to the sister of Bashir Mohammed, an ex-Police officer who quit his Government job after observing human rights abuses at the hands of the Punjab Police.
