CHANDIGARGH, Punjab (KP)--Several Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, All India Sikh Student Federation, Damdami Taksal, Sant Samaj, Dal Khalsa and others, held a total railways blockade at several places within Punjab. The blockade was held as a protest against the nomination of Jagdish Tytler by Congress and the recent case dropped by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Train service to Delhi, Mumbai, Amritsar Sahib, Jammu and Ambala was severely affected by the blockade organized by Sikh Sangat and Panthic organizations led by Harnaam Singh Dhumma and SGPC President Avtar Makkar. All the blockades throughout Punjab were held in a very peaceful and well-organized manner.
Jathedar Avtar Makkar held that Sikh sangat will appeal to worldwide bodies to seek justice for 1984 disturbed families and individuals. Immediate action will also be sought to get Jagdish Tytler and other 1984 culprits in International courts.
Baba Dhumma equated the recent nomination of Jagdish Tytler by Congress to Indira Gandhi’s Operation Bluestar. Baba Dhumma told the press that just like Indira Gandhi, Sonia too committed an unpardonable act when she granted tickets to Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar.
At Jalandhar, Sikh Sangat blocked all trains starting from 11 AM until 3 PM. Sangat recited Gurbani and joined in naam simran as all the train services remained halted for four hours. Finally ardas was performed within sangat and the services resumed.
At Amritsar Sahib, the Shatabdi, along with other train services were disrupted. The railway station remained packed by Sikh sangat. Several leaders of different Sikh organizations, including Dal Khalsa, Damdami Taksal, Sant Samaj, Sikh Student Federation (Mehta), and Khalsa Action Committee were present to take part in the protest that lasted for four hours.
The same pattern was followed at Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Jagraon and Bias where the train services remained disrupted from 11 AM until 3 PM. At Jagroan, Sanj Samaj, Damdami Taksal and Sikh Student Federation activists were present in large numbers; the presence of Shiromani Akali Dal (B) and Bhartiya Janta Party workers, there to take political advantage, was also noticed.
